Principal researcher – Fernando Martínez Abad

Teacher with a Diploma in Primary Education, Bachelor’s Degree in Psychopedagogy, Graduate Certificate in Statistics, Official Master’s in Educational ICT and Doctorate, with the highest distinction, in Educational Sciences. He currently works as an Assistant Professor at the University of Salamanca in the Research and Assessment Methods in Education section of the Department of Didactics, Organisation and Research Methods, serving as the Department’s Academic SecretaryHis main teaching work is in the field of Research Methodology and Data Analysis in Education, with responsibilities for lecturing on both Bachelor’s (Degree in Pedagogy and Social Education) and Official Master’s courses (Master’s in Secondary Education Teaching, Master’s in Educational ICT and Master’s in Psychogerontology). He also regularly participates as a professor in Doctoral Seminars and ongoing training courses for university professors and non-university professionals, teaching courses and workshops related to Social Science Methodology and Research Design, Inferential Data Analysis, Data Mining techniques, Psychometrics and Multivariate Data Analysis.

In terms of his research profile, his main areas of work are the assessment of basic competencies, identification of factors associated with performance and quantitative data analysis techniques in education. He is a member of the GE2O Recognised Research Group (Educational Assessment and Guidance Group), the GRIAL Consolidated Research Unit (Interaction and eLearning Research Group), the IBSAL Psychoscience Research Group (Salamanca Biomedical Research Institute) and the IUCE Research Institute (University Institute of Educational Sciences). Over the last 10 years, he has been a research team member on one international project, seven national projects, one regional project and several regional, local and private projects, having contributed to their dissemination with more than 30 publications in journals of national and international impact and over 90 contributions to scientific conferences and events of all kinds.

Among other positions and activities, he is currently Section Editor of the Revista Electrónica de Investigación y Evaluación Educativa (RELIEVE), Secretary and member of the Editorial Board of the journal Education in the Knowledge Society (EKS), and is a former Editor of Reviews and member of the Editorial Committee of the journal Teoría de la Educación. Educación y Cultura en la Sociedad de la Información (TESI). In addition to participating as a member of the Scientific Committee assessing scientific journals such as Infancia y Aprendizaje, Virtualis, RELIEVE and Perfiles Educativos, he has been a member of the Scientific and Organising Committees of seven international scientific events. Also worth highlighting in this area was his participation as an Assessor for the Castile and León Agency for University System Quality (ACSUCYL) in the Castile and León official university degree monitoring programme in 2011 and 2012.
